The Victoria Lioness Club is a service organization sponsored y the Victoria Chinatown Lions Club.

The Club provides service to the Greater Victoria community, with particular emphasis to women and children’s issues and needs, and promotes participation and contribution in the Chinese Canadian heritage and culture.

A part of that service includes modest funding support to individuals , groups and organizations that meet the criteria of the Victoria Chinatown Lioness Club.

Our online form should be available within the next month.

An example of our ongoing donations is our annual bursary to the University of Victoria ,  promoting scholarship in Asian studies.

Help put a smile in her heart: Mother’s Day Boxes

Mother’s Day Boxes 2016

tissue paper

The pleasure of an unexpected gift

The delight of self-renewal

The buoyancy of feeling fresh and lovely

Kissed with a smile of a child

Creating Mother’s Day boxes is a favourite annual Lioness project.  In 2006 Lioness Lynne became aware of an agency which gave boxes to kids so that they would have something to give their mom on Mother’s Day. She brought the idea to the Victoria Chinatown Lioness who embraced it wholeheartedly.

When Lioness Michelle joined Victoria Chinatown Lioness, she project and its story . When she assumed leadership of the project, she incorporated the idea of plain white Chinese take-out containers that kids could decorate before giving to their moms.  Michelle’s vision was to fill the boxes with cosmetics, and give the boxes to women who might not have enough money to spend on cosmetics, or had escaped a situation where they were not able to take much with them.  Michelle felt that nice toiletries could help women in need and distress, feel a little more normalized. The hope was, and is, to give the women a small gift that might help them feel good about themselves, and go out into the world with increased confidence.  A small positive step forward.

Each year Lioness save and collect toiletry items with the help of our friends. We gather together a couple of weeks before Mother’s Day, this year April 24,  to sort items, line the boxes with colourful tissue paper and fill them with cosmetics, perfumes, toiletries and essentials.

Over two hundred boxes are delivered to the Single Parent Resource Center,  Victoria Women’s Transition House and Bridges for Women. The children associated with Bridges Women get to select one of the boxes  to give to their mothers on Mothers day.

More boxes are always requested.

Please help us, this year and every year. Save and donate your unused, new makeup samples and toiletries. Consider snapping up deals on essentials to pass on to our project. We would greatly appreciate references for business donations. Help us to put a smile in hearts of our sisters in need.

Victoria Day Parade

Lioness Ellen is organizing the  annual Victoria Chinatown Lioness participation  in the Victoria Day Parade May 18 . We hope to see you there!

Lioness Ellen shares :

“We started to participate in the parade about 20 years ago. At the beginning, we only had few people, one time,  I  marched with Lioness Penny only, on behalf of Lioness.  After that, we joined CCBA and walk under the Chinese community team. This year we are joining the Zone 19  Lion and Lioness

We love to  participating because :

1/ The parade is a great way to get out and let the public see us and to build community spirit .

2/  The weather has always been always gorgeous and it is fun for our club to get together to do  some fun things, we  see different beautiful floats and wonderful marching bands all over the venue .

3/ How often can you wave your hand like the queen ! “
